早期有声电影，也是斯登堡的第一部有声电影，依然加入了大量歌舞桥段（监狱里频繁响起的歌曲起着类似配乐的作用），但环境音和画外音的处理比较生涩，班克罗夫特的语速也莫名地越来越慢。本片同样由班克罗夫特主演，由相似的黑帮三角恋故事和相互拯救的结局，可以说是《地下世界》的兄弟篇，但相比之下更柔和更喜剧化。Thunderbolt作为前科累累的罪犯，在片中憨态多于凶狠，全片没有描绘残暴的犯罪情节，后半段场景主要局限在监狱和牢房中，人物成为主导，个个都特点鲜明，最终收尾于豪迈与温情。监狱戏诞生了一个堪比“叫醒失眠患者吃安眠药”的爆笑桥段，Thunderbolt与小狗的有趣互动想起瘦子系列的Asta
